Set of six vintage Val St. Lambert crystal knife rests. These cut crystal knife rests were produced by Belgian producer Val St. Lambert in the 1950's. The knife rests are cut with a floral decoration and a sunburst pattern.

Knife rests were originally created in the late 17th or early 18th century and were used so you didn't have to exchange or wash cutlery between courses.
It is important to note that at the beginning of the meal knives should not be on the rests. During the meal, in-between bites, the knife should be placed on the edge of the plate, as proper etiquette dictates. The knife rest is only used in-between courses, when the plate is removed.
